Bob Findlay talks on its First Digital Release

rock musician born in Scotland, Bob Findlay, initally humbugged the notion of what he called of "exaggeration of the technology."

Since returning to the music industry later than April, 2007, seems to lean more to the avenues presented by this relatively new mode of musical production and promotion. Findlay recently spoke in regard to their first album digital 'Blind Horse, and was illustrated surprising as frank and direct the Scottish general had to say about the album, and their attitude towards the Internet has changed gradually and the effect it is having on their musical direction.

DF: Bob, "Rough and Ready" was launched last less than three months and has now launched 'Blind Horse. "Why the short space of time and why digital?

BF: Well, you've almost answered your own question. The short time is because the time saved by the digital process. Once recorded an album that is pretty good. There is no physical time constraints to mess around with, cover design, CD design and so on. All the packaging side of it is totally gone which is a huge time and cost saving. The fact that the album has only two new tracks, so to speak, also helped her "release date forward quite frequently.

DF: In the past you have been critical of companies such as iTunes and Amazon for not really support of its artists.

BF: I have, but I missed a great point. Nobody is really an artist iTunes or Amazon. These companies are basically charge the artists to use its power of advertising to help promote their work.

DF: Is it not possible to do this by use of free sites?

BF: It is but that does not seem to have the same scope or extent. I used them, many of them, for a while and still do, but seem almost regionalized. I know not, but apparently many of the artists to stick to the same sites come hell or for reasons Highwater of loyalty, or maybe it's a question of familiarity or stick to what they know.

DF: You seem to have been quite sociable since returning to the industry, Bob.

BF: I guess so, to some extent. That's probably a bit like me in real life. I've never been one to hang around the same crowd for too long, for any reason. ReverbNation I've been with for quite some time as I like your setup. SoundClick seems highly regionalized, so I have a little far from there, same with Jamwave and MusicForte.

FD: I've noticed that you've started your own music page on Facebook. What made this all about?

BF: It was a sort of accident, really. I've been on Facebook for ages but never really paid much attention until a few months ago, when old friends turned up there. The next thing I knew this person knew that the person who knew me from anywhere. He had a band ReverbNation application for which it was very useful, but the application was iLike really threw a curve to me musically.

DF: Why?

BF: Well, I had seen all these great names, the Stones, Dylan, Lou Reed, The Faces, Status Quo, all of my favorites, you know? Then I began to see Some people I knew from other sites, Uncle Steve, Jodi Ann, Charles Michael, Dawn Alberts, 9 Lives, Jeff Todd Blues Band and I thought. "I quite like the appearance of that ", you know little orange symbol thumb next to your name. I already had an account there, but do not pay much attention to it, until little.

DF: So how does all that make 'Blind Horse "in the way it was presented?

BF: iLike Then I noticed a lot of acts had to buy from iTunes or Amazon. In my ignorance I thought that people can download from iLike, which can only do so if offered as a free download. It was around this time that I received an email from Tunecore offering some special or other kind with regard to getting an album released through one of many companies. It all happened very quickly.

DF: When you say fast, how fast do you mean, Bob?

BF: a lot during the night but not too close. I had 10 songs from previous albums that were rated good and two that I felt would qualify as well, reproccessed and remixed them, that was it. I did not even bother with a cover of the album, let their actions broadcast standard. Amazon was out not long after and will be out on iTunes on 17.

DF: Do you regret not doing this before or perhaps in the jump, when he did, so soon?

BF: I do not regret it when I did, no. I just did it when I did it because the sales of "Rough and Ready" could easily justify putting something back into music. Perhaps given the same time through, I probably would have put fewer songs on the album and actually bothered to design the cover. I guess is an experiment. The next time will be different I would say.

DF: What do you mean, Bob? Let's see another Bob Findlay digital release, then?

BF: Well, all aspects should be with the benefit of hindsight. Not sure there will be another digital release. I'm kinda hoping that is all that is, unless people really want a physical CD.

DF: So how will the next version are different?

BF: It is likely that only half the size and actually have a clamshell design. I probably make more than a scandal about it as well the promotion-wise.

DT: Why?

BF: Probably because I'm closer than I ever could be to "Blind Horse." The tracks are fresh and are for me from a certain point in my life, while 'Blind Horse "is a matter quite dispersed. I still think it stands as an album in its' entirety however. There is still an issue there. The next will be much more direct.
