itunes educational podcasts

How can multiple users log into a computer to download podcasts … without using iTunes!?
I work in a school and want to allow education students to download podcasts. The technicians do not want to install iTunes does anyone know of anything else to do the same? We need to work for each user who logs on – hit a bit of a brick wall here so if anyone has ideas I'd love to hear them! Much love.
Most of podcasts can be downloaded in standard MP3 format, which can only be stored as a file on the PC. Windows Media Player can be used to listen. As a method allows each user to load it on their own players, which means that each student has a player, and they all have similar players. I know most of the colleges can safely assume (or require) that a student has a laptop available, but I do not think we've reached the point where a university can make that all students have iPods uniform. Therefore, the best way to listen to the podcast is probably as an MP3 on their laptops.
