I want to use Rhymbox to listen to my itunes on my Mac. I can’t install WINE so can I do it any other way?
So: You’re using Ubuntu and want to access your iTune media using Rhythmbox over LAN?
Rythmbox (>0.10.0) does support the ‘Digital Audio Access Protocol (DAAP), the proprietary protocol introduced by Apple in its iTunes software to share media across a local network.’¹,²
‘Beginning with iTunes 4.2, Apple introduced authentication to DAAP sharing, meaning that the only clients that could connect to iTunes servers were other instances of iTunes.’²
‘As of September 2009, the iTunes 7.0 DAAP authentication still hasn’t been reverse engineered, so no third party application can stream from iTunes 7.x or 8.x or 9.x servers.’²
