MacBook Pro User's Manual

1) Getting Started (a) Unpacking

Remove your Mac Book Pro in the box and place it on a firm surface near an electrical outlet. In the table, you should also have

  • adapter 85W MagSafe Power Adapter
  • power cable
  • a DVI to VGA adapter

(b) Upload

Strip the plastic film MagSafe Power Adapter 85W. Make sure the cap sits correctly in the adapter and put it into the outlet. Take the other end of the main power adapter and connect the magnetic MagSafe power port on the left side of the MacBook Pro

From left to right along the front edge of the MacBook Pro are

  • Display button
  • slot Loading SuperDrive

From left to right on the left side of the MacBook Pro are

  • a power port MagSafe
  • a USB 2.0 (15-inch model), two USB 2.0 (17-inch model)
  • an optical audio line digital audio port
  • one headphone out / optical digital audio output port
  • ExpressCard/34 slot

From left to right on the right side of the MacBook Pro are

  • a security slot for a cable and lock
  • USB port 2.0
  • one FireWire 400 port
  • One FireWire 800 port
  • a Gigabit Ethernet (10/100/1000Base-T)
  • DVI port

Under the MacBook Pro is the battery. The battery has a row of indicator lights and a button.

Set initial 2)-up (a) Setup Wizard

Change in the MacBook Pro by pressing the power button. Assistant Setup pops up on the screen.

Setup Wizard guides you through the process of creating your user account and email and the Internet. If you have another Mac and want to take files and applications that the MacBook Pro, Setup Assistant will show you how. If you want to transfer this information at a later date, use the Migration Assistant instead.

  • Select the Applications folder
  • Utilities Open
  • Double-click Migration Assistant

If you have another Mac that does not intend to use in the future, and that you have purchased music, audiobooks, movies or TV shows in iTunes, de-authorize the computer. For details, go to iTunes and select iTunes Help.

(b) Internet connection

You can connect wirelessly to the Internet using your MacBook Pro AirPort Extreme installation. For more information

  • go to the menu bar
  • Choose Help> Help Mac
  • search for "AirPort"

Alternatively, connect an Ethernet cable to the port on the right side of your MacBook Pro Place the other end into a cable modem, DSL modem or network.

For a dial-up Internet connection

  • buy external Apple USB Modem
  • place in one of its MacBook Pro USB Ports
  • connect a telephone to cause a telephone the modem

(c) sleep mode

Use sleep mode on the MacBook Pro if you stop working for a short period. To start the standby mode, you have the following options:

  • Choose Apple> Sleep in the bar Menu
  • Off the Screen
  • press the power button and sleep for selection in the dialog box
  • Choose Apple> System Preferences, choose Energy Saver, set the timer for

Attention: not move the MacBook Pro until the sleep indicator on the front edge lights. This tells you the hard disk has stopped. If you move the MacBook Pro with the disc still spinning, you can damage the disc and lose data.

After the MacBook Pro to Sleep:

  • open the display if it closes, or
  • if the screen is open, press any key or button

(d) Close

If you've finished working on the MacBook Pro for the day, shut it down by either

  • Choose Apple> Shut Down in the menu bar, or
  • pressing the power button and select Shut Down dialog

3) Using the trackpad

With a trackpad, you can:

  • displacement
  • Click
  • Double-click
  • drag
  • move the pointer

To control the distance of the pointer to send the screen, adjust the speed of your finger on the trackpad:

  • Move your finger slowly to send the pointer a short distance
  • Move your finger quickly to send the pointer over

Other features of the trackpad include:

  • Two finger scroll. Scroll in any direction, making the same movements with two fingers on the trackpad.
  • Secondary or right-clicking. Using shortcut menu commands by placing two fingers on the trackpad and click the trackpad button.

Some of the features of the trackpad are applied to certain applications:

  • Two fingers of rotation. For the rotation two fingers on the trackpad, you can convert images and text.
  • Two fingers pinching. Pinching well together and pushing two fingers on the trackpad, you can zoom in or out.
  • Three fingering. Flick through a series of images or pages of a document by swiping three fingers on the trackpad.

If you want to adjust and configure the trackpad

  • select Apple> System Preferences
  • click Keyboard & Mouse
  • click Trackpad

4) Quick Guide to Mac OS X (a) Introduction

(b) The Basics

The basic controls are the keyboard and trackpad. Windows users will be forced to use the keyboard and trackpad fewer times in the MacBook Pro to obtain comparable results.

  • Desktop
  • Dock
  • Search
  • Menu bar

Desktop

Desktop is your starting point every time you use your MacBook Pro stores such items as files and images.

The first icon on the desktop is the Macintosh HD (hard drive). Other icons appear with the various functions of MacBook Pro For an icon files and applications, double click it.

Also note that

  • if you connect a device for the MacBook Pro, an icon on the desktop
  • If you allow other users of the MacBook Pro, everyone can have a desk

  • Al running applications, Desktop is always behind them

Dock

The Dock is a row of icons located at the bottom of your MacBook Pro screen. Click an icon to access files and applications it contains.

  • The red button closes the window
  • The yellow button minimizes the window to the Dock
  • Maximize the green button and minimize the window size

Search

The icon at the left end of the dock is the Finder. Use the search for surf and MacBook Pro files and applications.

Menu Bar

The menu bar is a line in the top of the MacBook Pro screen.

With the menu bar, you can

  • see the work of the past
  • view and adjust the settings and applications
  • end applications
  • interact a program
  • enter and exit
  • put your MacBook Pro in sleep mode
  • begin restart
  • turn off the MacBook Pro

Customize Desktop

To customize Desktop, select the Preferences icon System in the Dock or Apple> System Preferences from the menu bar. For details of what you can do, choose Mac Help and search for "System Preferences or for the item you want to change.

The MacBook Pro has a wide range of ports for printers, phones, iPods, cameras, joysticks, hard drives and so on. USB 2.0 ports and has a FireWire 400 and FireWire 800. These are ideal to connect high-speed devices such as video cameras.

The DVI port lets you connect a monitor, TV or projector. If you have a device VGA, and then use the supplied DVI / VGA.

Use of audio line in / optical digital audio port for connecting digital audio equipment or a microphone. Use the headphone output and optical digital audio output port for audio equipment, headphones or speakers.

The ExpressCard/34 slot All credit cards accepted standard ExpressCard 34 mm. Note that when you want to remove the card, gently first.

6) Battery

When you use the MacBook Pro without the MagSafe Power Adapter, the time that the computer can run depends on the applications and devices peripherals that are draining battery power. You can save battery power by removing unnecessary devices and switching off the AirPort Extreme and Bluetooth ® features when you're using.

Press the button to check battery power level. The lights in side of the button to tell how much charge is left, if any. You can also inspect the battery level with only the control of the icon battery status in the menu bar.

The battery can be charged at any time. You will find that you can load more quickly, however, when the MacBook Pro is in standby mode or off.

To replace the battery, failing with a full charged one, always turn off the MacBook Pro in the first place.
