How I can put an iPod in manual update?

My husband and I each have an iPod and iTunes only. Before he got his every time you open iTunes automatically my songs and albums came and my ipod is updated automatically. Now that you have one, how can swith so you can manually update your ipods? So do not get their music and vice versa.

when connecting the iPod, iTunes appears. click the iPod icon devices. then in the bottom 1 / 3 of the screen, not a check-up menu. uncheck manually manage music. ps you have to do that w / iPod both
