mDNSResponder.exe is a process associated with "Bonjour for Windows" software. Mainly used by iTunes to share music. This is a non-essential process that's not the system needs to perform its normal function and disable or enable establishing user preferences. mDNSResponder.exe as mentioned above is the Bonjour system service that implements Multicast DNS Service Discovery for discovery of services in the local network and unicast DNS discovery services for discovery of services anywhere across the entire Internet. mDNSResponder.exe was originally built to go with the Mac OS X from Apple's platform produce for both Mac OS and iTunes music software. Applications such as iTunes, iPhoto, iChat and Safari use mDNSResponder.exe to implement zero-configuration (zero configuration explained in the next paragraph) the network music sharing, photo sharing, chat and share files, and the discovery of remote user interfaces for devices hardware such as printers and webcams. mDNSResponder.exe is open source, and hardware device manufacturers are encouraged to embed the mDNSResponder source code directly in their products to qualify for zero configuration networking.

What is Bonjour?

Bonjour service, which is a zero configuration system allows automatic network of computers, devices and services on IP networks. Bonjour uses industry standard protocols intellectual property to allow devices to automatically discover each other without the need for IP addresses or configure DNS servers. Bonjour is Basically 3 services together into one. Specifically, the Bonjour service allows automatically configures the IP address assignment without a DHCP server, translates the domain name to IP addresses without the need for a DNS server (Domain Name Server), and no service discovery without a directory server. Bonjour is an open protocol Apple has submitted to the IETF. Open protocol means that any software developer can read the documentation or download the source code for it and implement its own version of the service or include in its request for Discovery Networks.

mDNSResponder.exe Windows operating system is typically located in a subfolder "C: Program Files" or sometimes in a subfolder of the folder "My Files". The application uses ports to connect to the LAN or Internet. You can uninstall this program from the Add / Remove Programs in Control Panel.
