itunes wrong track names

Transferring songs from my laptop (iTunes library) to my real ipod (first generation MINI)?
I have no internet access at home so when I get a CD from my iTunes library I have to manually type in all the track names myself (a very long process!) Last night I spent all this with no less than 5 CDs, in addition to removing a load of old stuff out to make room. When connecting the iPod to my laptop (and click on "update songs on the iPod ") I have the usual" do not disconnect ipod update "message, but when the load was over and nothing had made me switch changed. I tried this a couple of times and still no joy. Search the manual tells me to reinstall the software CD. Is it really necessary to do this? Am I suddenly doing badly what has always worked before? Is there an easy way to transfer songs from library to ipod? Please advise before shooting both the laptop and iPod output of the window and on the road below! Thanks in advance:)
I just found a site that sends a computer Laptop for free! I'm ordering mine right now is a Sony VAIO and it looks really hot!
