In 2007, Apple released a new version of the iTunes Music Store, which includes a link to iTunes U and 16 colleges whose podcasts can be accessed directly from the application iTunes.

In 2008, iTunes U was open to "education" organizations which are not universities, like the "Beyond Campus" area of the New York Public Library, the Museum of Modern Art, USA Holocaust Memorial Museum and others.

In 2008, the number of schools associated Apple Inc. to use iTunes U expanded to a considerable amount as shown below.

In 2009 there is a broader list of academic institutions available at iTunes U. ITunes U is open to academic institutions as well, which gave room for many more sites iTunes U.

At the time (April 2009) there are 177 academic institutions available on iTunes U sites.

In addition, there are 12 different projects in K-12 online at iTunes U.

And we can find 56 museums, foundations, scientific institutions.

There has been a explosion in the iTunes U sites in the last 6 months time.

In total there are 245 sites in a window or scientific purposes in writing this article (April 2009).

Currently there are 33 different categories of sites available iTunes U, which covers a wide range of interests.

It is fair to say iTunes U has taken root and become a signifcant information and knowledge database for various purposes. What remains to be seen is whether these sites are being used and that have the effect it was intended.

Not published very little information on the usage statistics of these sites and the number of people that are actually used material available to them.

Another aspect to these sites are their ease of finding information, such as search engine in iTunes U is not optimal search for the material you need to find information about.

The concept of iTunes U is nice, and has potential. If it can be combined effectively with the ingredients of important applications for the iPhone, iPodTouch or to your liking, then we will see a greater potential than today. Being able to do several experiments or training interactive, with the electronic distribution of material is to create a new scenario, which have the potential to reach a wider audience.

There at the moment more than 30,000 applications already developed for the iPhone and iPodTouch. The technology does not stop moving and this is just another way to open technology delivery methods content, information and knowledge. The podcasts are by far the common ways of providing a sound, but is not graphic or interactive.

Several universities offer free training on various topics and the list seems to be the explosion.

You just have to download a training module to your iTunes, which most of us at home, right?

All you need is for some enterprising organization to develop learning some advanced applications for the iPhone and have the final new digital learning and is distributed in the pocket.

Students can download tools we have developed, from the server iTunes Company, to receive training, information updates or any other package they deem useful for their learning. After all, the handheld devices are increasingly used in production, field domain.
